Man Utd’s Pochettino chase takes twist after PSG make Zidane breakthrough

Manchester United’s potential move for Mauricio Pochettino gathered momentum as reports from France claimed Zinedine Zidane will replace the Argentine as manager of Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Pochettino was believed to be United’s first choice to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when the Norwegian was sacked after a 4-1 away loss to Watford.

While the former Tottenham Hotspur boss is at least expected to see out the season at the Parc des Princes, various sources from France have cited an uneasy relationship between him and PSG sporting director Leonardo.

Leonardo was reportedly furious with Pochettino’s purported attempt to depart the club and join Manchester United in November, before the Red Devils’ appointed Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season.

And RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo, who was one of the first to report Lionel Messi’s move to PSG, believes Zidane will be in charge of PSG this summer.

'Zidane will be PSG coach by June the latest,' Riolo said on his podcast ‘After Foot’ via Spanish news outlet AS.

Zidane has been enjoying a year out of football, after resigning from Real Madrid at the end of last season.

The legendary Frenchman won three Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, two Club World Cups, and two Copa Del Rays during a trophy laden four and a half seasons at the club.

However, his former assistant coach David Bettoni cast some doubt over the potential move, citing Zidane’s loving and passionate allegiance to Marseille.

“We all know Zizou is a Marseille man and we know all about the rivalry between Marseille and Paris,” Bettoni said to BeIN Sports.

“So it depends on how much he prioritises his profession. Only time will tell.

'Will Zidane go to PSG? To be honest, I haven't spoken to him about it.

“We know that there have been rumours in the newspapers.

“The only thing we know is Zizou has decided to take the whole year off. He told me he wanted to rest completely.”

United are currently languishing in seventh position in the Premier League having lost 1-0 at home to Wolves.
