Man Utd’s hot-head loanee Hannibal Mejbri warned about aggression by his manager

Manchester United's on-loan midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been told by Birmingham City manager John Eustace to cool his aggression on the pitch.

The 19-year-old, who is on a season-long loan with the Midlands side, has competed 11 times in the Championship so far this season – but his vigorous style has caused Eustace to warn him about his conduct.

The United Under-23s Player of the Year is known to be quite a fiery individual and this has caused his manager to request that he chill out a bit, especially following their 2-0 win over Queen Park Rangers.

Hannibal played 54 minutes, where he earned an assist, before being hooked off.

And Eustace has revealed that he did this owing to concerns he may receive a second yellow card and reduce his side to just ten-men.

“I was contemplating bringing him [Hannibal] off at half-time, if I am going to be honest," Eustance said after the match. "I spoke to him, spoke to the staff and he assured me he’d be OK. I think it lasted about four minutes.

“It’s something we have got to watch but he plays on the edge, that’s why he’s so good, a top player. I am certainly not going to stop him from doing what he does but he has to realise the importance of managing the games at times.

“He didn’t get sent off so it makes no difference to me, we brought him off because he was running the risk and that’s it. He might have got sent off on another day and when he made that tackle I thought ‘I have got to get him off’.”

The news will come as no shock to United fans, who know the player as being an aggressive midfielder from his time in the youth setup at Carrington.

But despite his heated demeanor, the Tunisian international’s displays in red have earned him praise from the likes of such United legends as Gary Neville and Bryan Robson.
