Man Utd’s four alternative targets as Mount transfer deal with Chelsea hits snag
Mason Mount dresses up as Spiderman with a football
Chelsea are reportedly demanding ‘sky high’ prices for their players this summer. And that represents an issue for Manchester United as they look to secure the signing of Mason Mount. The England international is a top transfer target for Erik ten Hag, who is eager to challenge rivals such as Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title next season.
Manchester United are pressing hard to sign Mount and are now considered to be the frontrunners in the race to sign the Chelsea star.
Yet The Mirror say the Blues are demanding premium fees for their players this summer, despite an obvious need to trim their squad.
That gives United a problem, with Ten Hag’s side set to operate cautiously in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
They’re keen to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham and, therefore, using up most of their budget on Mount would damage their hopes of acquiring their dream target.
Express Sport now takes a look at four alternative options for the club as Ten Hag looks to bolster his midfield.

Adrien Rabiot
A year ago, United agreed a fee with Juventus for the signing of Adrien Rabiot.
The operation collapsed due to the player’s high wage demands, however, with the France international ultimately staying in Turin.
Fast-forward to now, and Rabiot is poised to leave Juventus behind.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star’s contract is due to expire next month, meaning he’ll be available for free.
United’s interest in Rabiot dates back to when Jose Mourinho was manager and it’ll be intriguing to see whether they choose to capitalise on his situation.

Ryan Gravenberch
Liverpool seem to be in pole position when it comes to signing Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich.
Big things were expected of the Netherlands international when he moved from Ajax in last summer’s transfer window.
Yet Gravenberch, despite his obvious talent, has struggled for regular action at the club in the time since.
Ten Hag previously worked with the 21-year-old at Ajax, with the pair enjoying a positive relationship.
And with United having Champions League football to offer, a deal can’t be ruled out.

Frenkie de Jong
Yes, Frenkie de Jong would probably cost more than Mount.
But that’s not to say a deal is totally out of the question, with Ten Hag a long-time admirer of his fellow Dutchman.
De Jong is happy at Barcelona, having helped the club recently claim their first La Liga title since 2019.
Yet Barcelona could end up having to cut players loose as they look to fund a blockbuster return for Lionel Messi, who is primed to leave PSG.
United previously agreed a fee close to £65million for De Jong – and that number may drop given the La Liga giants’ desire to sign Messi.
Declan Rice
Like De Jong, Declan Rice would cost a premium fee.
In fact, there have even been suggestions West Ham want as much as £120m to part ways with their midfield general.
That would blow a huge hole in United’s budget of course, leaving little left in the pot to go towards a new striker.
Given Rice’s quality, experience and potential to improve, however, he could end up being worth every penny.
Whether signing the 24-year-old and sacrificing an A-list striker would be the right decision, though, is up for debate.
