Manchester United would like to sign Jadon Sancho but aren’t willing to break the bank for the Borussia Dortmund star, reports say. The Bundesliga giants have confirmed they have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the winger about a potential move away from the Westfalenstadion this summer. And a move to Old Trafford could still be on the cards.
Manchester United first showed interest in Sancho back in 2017.
They were alerted to the forward’s availability, with the player intending to leave Manchester City behind for a new challenge elsewhere at the time.
United missed out, however, with Dortmund enticing him to Germany with the guarantee of regular first-team football.
They tried again in 2019 but, after missing out on a place in the Champions League, decided to pursue other targets instead.
And United were also crushed when they failed to sign Sancho last summer, swooping for Edinson Cavani at the last minute as an alternative.
Despite that, interest from the Red Devils in the forward has remained.

And Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc recently revealed they had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sancho over a potential exit this summer, saying: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions.
“He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling.”
And The Athletic say that while United are still interested, they will only pursue a deal should Dortmund ‘significantly’ lower their price tag.
Last year, the Bundesliga side wanted a fee in the region of £110million to let their prized asset go.
That would have made Sancho United’s record signing, dwarfing the £89m they paid to re-sign Paul Pogba back in the summer transfer window of 2016.

A cheaper fee for the England international has been mooted, with separate reports claiming Dortmund would negotiate should they receive an offer between £70m and £80m.
And whether United choose to go after Sancho again, for a fourth time, remains to be seen.
He initially struggled at the start of the campaign, appearing to have been impacted by the talk surrounding his future.
But Sancho has bounced back to score 12 goals and register 12 assists across all competitions this term, emerging as a shining light in the process.
And he’s not the only player on their radar.
Erling Haaland appears to be their priority target, with the Dortmund star scoring 35 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined this season.
Interest in Declan Rice remains, regardless of what happens with Paul Pogba.
And United are also keen on signing a new centre-back, with Real Madrid star Raphael Varane their priority target in that position.
Meanwhile, speaking recently, Ian Wright urged United to still try and sign Sancho – despite their interest in Haaland.
“I’d still try and get Sancho as well to go with him,” Wright said.
“I envisage that if you can have a Man United side that had Pogba, Fernandes, Haaland and Sancho… you know what I mean?
“Then you start to feel that somewhere along the line you’re going to get some creativity there.
“My problem with Man United when I watch them is that they don’t keep the ball well enough in that last third where the creativity is needed to open a West Ham up, move defenders around, a link man like the forward who can hold it, keep it there on the edge of the box, play it around to someone like Fernandes who can slip it into little spaces.
“Then all of a sudden you can counter attack or you can play through them. That’s what they need, any of those two.
“I don’t think Sancho is something that they should just give up on because he’s creative as well, he goes past people.”
