Manchester United are employing a clever target in their pursuit of Erling Haaland ahead of the summer transfer window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered an injury blow to Marcus Rashford ahead of their FA Cup exit to Leicester City on Sunday – in which misfit Donny Van de Beek was hauled off. Here, Express Sport brings you the latest news from Old Trafford.
Solskjaer’s clever Haaland tactic
When it comes to chasing top target Haaland, Solskjaer is acting smart by getting Paul Pogba back to his best.
Solskjaer again played the France star on the left of United’s attack in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Leicester, following his match-winning performance against AC Milan in midweek.
It didn’t work out for Pogba or United at the King Power Stadium, with Solskjaer’s side losing 3-1 and crashing out of the cup.
But by playing the World Cup winner in a position in which he can flourish, the manager is making Pogba happier – and that could ease negotiations when it comes to landing Haaland this summer.

By getting Pogba back on top of his game, United are also helping to mend their relationship with the player’s agent, Mino Raiola – who also represents Haaland.
And if the Red Devils want to sign Haaland, they need to keep Raiola happy.
Rashford injury blow
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Marcus Rashford’s latest injury blow just minutes before United’s FA Cup clash against Leicester City.
The forward is now a doubt for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland, although he is expected to report for international duty.

Explaining his absence, Solskjaer told BBC Sport: “No, he wasn’t close [to playing].
“We took him off [against Milan] and he thought he’d be ready but, yesterday, he had no chance of walking on his foot.
“The scans show there’s an injury there.”
United’s next game is a Premier League clash at home to Brighton on Sunday, April 4.
Van de Beek’s reaction to being hauled off against Leicester
Donny van de Beek was handed a rare start against Leicester – but may feel he didn’t make the most of his opportunity.
The £40million summer signing started the game in the No10 role in place of Bruno Fernandes, and was tidy enough in possession, but was hooked midway through the second half with United 2-1 down.
BBC cameras focused on Van de Beek as he made his way off the pitch looking downbeat.
He appeared to offer words of encouragement to Fernandes as the playmaker took to the pitch as part of a quadruple , and the Dutch midfielder showed his support for his team-mates from the touchline.
Cameras continued to follow Van de Beek as he took his seat for the rest of the game, and he was seen biting his lip in apparent disappointment.
Van de Beek’s future at United appears increasingly under threat, with the midfielder having barely played during the Red Devils’ charge to second place in the Premier League.
