Man Utd’s Andre Onana breaks silence after PGMOL admit Wolves penalty blunder
Andre Onana has spoken out on the incident which saw the Manchester United goalkeeper suffer a major let-off in his side’s fortuitous 1-0 victory over Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night. In the final minutes of stoppage time, the Premier League debutant clattered into striker Sasa Kalajdzic as he attempted to claim a cross, flattening the Austrian and his team-mate Craig Dawson – without claiming the ball.
Yet to the mystery of both the commentators and all of those watching the game from home, VAR decided not to award a penalty after referee Simon Hooper missed the blatant foul.
PGMOL’s Jonathan Moss has since apologised to Wolves boss Gary O’Neil for their failure to award a penalty which on their part, they consider a big mistake.
But Onana is still adamant the right decision was made as he defended his challenge which in his view, was totally legal.
He told Sky Sports: “Like I always said, goalkeepers, the mistake is around the post.

“You make decisions and sometimes you are right, sometimes you are not. I made a decision and I am responsible for everything.
“For me it was just contact between two big guys and I was calm. I knew what happened.
“The most important thing for us was to win and I am very happy for the victory.”
When asked whether he was confident during normal time that the challenge wouldn’t result in a penalty, he said rather nervously: “Of course I was completely confident.”

Man Utd new boy Andre Onana ‘punches’ Wolves star as Wolves denied clear penalty[LATEST]
Raphael Varane headed the winner for United in the second half following great work from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
But the visitors were more than worthy of a point – if not all three – despite failing to convert one of their 25 shots at goal.
It’s the most attempts an away side has registered at Old Trafford in the Premier League since 2005, although O’Neil must be frustrated by some of his side’s finishing despite their spirited display.
Matheus Cunha was excellent while Pedro Neto also flourished as he continued to help Wolves harvest a number of notable chances.
The Wolves boss elaborated on the Onana incident after the game, stating: “Jon Moss said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given – fair play to him, he apologised.
“I have spent a lot of time with him today to understand the new guidelines, trying not to get myself booked in the first game, which I have failed in.
“But fair play to Jon for coming out and saying it was a clear and obvious error – he couldn’t believe the on-field referee didn’t give it and can’t believe VAR didn’t intervene.
“It probably made me feel worse, actually, because you know you are right. I feel worse about leaving with nothing. Live, I was told they didn’t think it was a clear and obvious error.”
