Man Utd youngster responds to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s query over Amad

17-year-old Manchester United striker Joe Hugill scored four goals in a 6-3 win over Liverpool's Under-23s side last month, a game which saw new signing Amad make his debut.

Amad made the move to Old Trafford from Atalanta in January and also found the back of the net in that game, scoring a brace.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about Amad's debut, he also praised Hugill's performance and questioned why the striker let Amad take United's second penalty.

"Four goals by Hugill, he's a top striker as well, we're looking forward to seeing his development," Solskjaer said. "Amad gets a good start and why Joe didn't take the penalty himself to get five goals I'm going to ask him."

In an interview with Secret Scout, Hugill explained: "It was the first time I had met Amad! He really wanted the first pen.

"I was like 'Nah, I'm going to have it!' When you're talking, you're like 'I need to score now.' You don't want a massive argument as well because the other team will see that.

"I was on a hat-trick, so I had to take the first pen, and for the next one, as it was my first time meeting him, I wanted him to feel welcome!"

Amad was part of the first-team squad for United's 1-0 win over West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round but he was an unused substitute.

Speaking after that game, Solskjaer told MUTV: "Amad has been bright when he's come in. He's done really well with the reserves games and he's a player who can create things out of nothing so he's there if we need something."

United's Under-23s head coach Neil Wood has also praised the youngster, saying: "You see he has ability and he's linking up well. He doesn't really have a relationship with any of these boys here but he came to Liverpool on Saturday and did well and the same against Blackburn.

"He's training with the first team and doing well and he's still new to England and the style of football so it's going to take time. Like all young players you have to be patient with them. He's gaining more confidence as the days go on."
