Man Utd ‘weigh up move for Hojbjerg’ after Ten Hag makes demand to hierarchy

Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a shock move for Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the final week of the transfer window. Erik ten Hag has been urging the club’s hierarchy to sign another midfielder before Friday’s deadline.

The Red Devils have been linked with an array of midfield talents over the last few weeks, especially after Mason Mount was ruled out due to injury. United have reportedly identified Hojbjerg as a possible addition.

It is reported that United have been offered the chance to sign the Denmark international. Spurs are open to selling him before Friday’s deadline, with Ange Postecoglou preferring other options in his midfield.

United could now open talks with Hojbjerg and advance discussions in the build-up to transfer deadline day. The 28-year-old has already turned down exits from Spurs this summer, including to Saudi Arabia.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Hojbjerg could join United, though, if the Old Trafford outfit seriously pursue a deal this week. Ten Hag has been urging the club to sign another central midfielder.

Mount and Casemiro have both been criticised for their displays in the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign. The former Chelsea playmaker is also set to miss the next few weeks with a minor injury that is also expected to keep him out of England duty.

It is claimed that Spurs turned down a £30million offer from Atletico Madrid for Hojbjerg earlier in the summer. But they might need to lower their demands if United are to strike a deal in the coming days.

The Red Devils have already spent close to £200m on three new arrivals this summer. They have tried to raise funds through player sales but have not shaved enough outcasts from their squad to see a serious return.

The report adds that claims in Germany suggesting Scott McTominay could be set to join Bayern Munich are far-fetched. Sky in Germany reported that McTominay was wanted by Bayern as part of a ‘loan swap’ involving the Bavarians’ Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

United have apparently quoted £45m for McTominay. A switch to West Ham earlier this summer reportedly fell through over the demand.
