Man Utd ‘weigh up Amadou Onana bid’ as Ten Hag sets up separate scouting mission
Premier League season preview: Man Utd
Manchester United are considering a swoop for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to reports. The Red Devils are scouring the market for alternatives to Sofyan Amrabat, who is coveted by several European rivals, and manager Erik ten Hag is also stepping up attempts to bolster his defence.
Amrabat’s prospective move to Old Trafford has slowed down in recent weeks. The Moroccan was presumed to be bound for the Premier League when he reportedly snubbed Liverpool in favour of joining the Red Devils last month.
However, interest from Juventus and Atletico Madrid has threatened to throw a spanner in the works of United’s £26million pursuit. Fiorentina star Amrabat is an accomplished central midfielder who impressed at the World Cup with Morocco last year.
As an alternative, The Daily Mail claim that Ten Hag and co are assessing the possibility of signing Everton’s Onana.

The 21-year-old is not quite as polished as Amrabat, but brings an element of unpredictability that saw him earn plaudits from Premier League fans last campaign, despite playing for a struggling team.
Onana would likely cost significantly more than Amrabat, given that Everton shelled out £33m to sign him from Lille last year and would want a healthy return on their investment.

The 6ft 4in star is already a full Belgian international with six caps, and other top Premier League sides showed serious interest back in January. Aside from focusing on midfield recruitment, Ten Hag has also taken steps to beef up his back-line.
According to reports, United sent scouts to watch defensive target Jean-Clair Todibo in action for OGC Nice on Friday evening. The French outfit drew 1-1 with Lille, and Todibo played the full 90 minutes in the heart of defence.
Along with Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard, Ten Hag is believed to have earmarked Todibo as the perfect replacement for Harry Maguire, should he complete a £30m move to West Ham.
Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba is also rumoured to be a player under consideration by senior figures at Old Trafford as the September 1 transfer deadline approaches.
