Man Utd warning sent to Wrexham squad after Chelsea thrashing in Ten Hag shakeup
Football Digest: 'Disjointed' England get World Cup underway
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has warned his players to expect a tough 90 minutes against Manchester United in San Diego, even if Erik ten Hag is naming a second-string side. The North Wales club is currently embarking on a US tour after returning to the Football League for the first time in 15 years, following their coronation as National League champions with a record 111 points.
Celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have helped elevate the Red Dragon’s profile in the States to a new level, following their successful takeover of the club and the added exposure of the Disney Plus TV series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
Parkinson’s side has already faced Chelsea, where they were on the receiving end of a 5-0 hiding before beating LA Galaxy II 4-0 in California on Sunday.
The Red Devils are Wrexham’s opponents next on Tuesday and although manager Ten Hag is expected to name a team that is largely comprised of youngsters, including academy prospects Charlie McNeill and Alvaro Fernandez, Parkinson is warning his players that they can expect the same high standard of opposition regardless.
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “Manchester United will dominate possession as they are a fantastic team. Even if they won’t be playing their main team, their periphery players are outstanding and are internationals.
“It will be a great exercise for us in working out of possession and being disciplined. We’re playing against a good team and need to be at our best. I think the balance for us is getting minutes in as many of the players as possible.”
Veteran centre-back Jonny Evans could get a run-out for United after re-signing for the club on a short-term deal. Parkinson could make several changes of his own, however, after admitting that some of his troops need to improve their minutes on the pitch.

He added: “Other players will start the game, as we need to make sure that as many get back ready for the season as close to peak fitness as possible.”
With one victory and one defeat to their name so far, fans have come out in force to catch a glimpse of a Wrexham team that is boxing well above its weight in terms of international popularity.
United meanwhile, have slightly bigger fish to fry only a day after their Wrexham fixture, with Real Madrid up next. Ten Hag will put out the strongest side possible against Carlo Ancelotti’s team, explaining why only a second string will make it onto the field against the Red Dragons.
Manchester United players set to feature against Wrexham: Radek Vitek, Alvaro Fernandez, Kobbie Mainoo, Dan Gore, Sonny Aljofree, Marc Jurado, Isak Hansen-Aareon, Toby Collyer, Maxi Oyedele, Shola Shoretire, Noam Emeran, Joe Hugill, Omari Forson.
