Man Utd warned Mauricio Pochettino is the "last person" to name as next manager

Manchester United should be running a mile from Mauricio Pochettino after his Champions League fiasco with Paris Saint-Germain.

But whoever gets the manager's job next season faces an impossible job because they are going to be 20 points behind Manchester City and Liverpool again.

United were cringeworthy in the Manchester derby. Embarrassing. Not one United player gets in the City team. Not one single player. And that's extraordinary.

It was like watching an FA Cup tie between a Premier League side and a non-league team.

But if you were a United fan watching PSG collapse against Real Madrid you'd be even more worried.

Everyone knows United love Pochettino but I'm not sure he's right for them at all.

PSG gave Madrid a lesson in the first half. They made you think they were going to win the Champions League.

They were through. Should have been game over. And then… wow. I'm absolutely flabbergasted with how they folded.

That second half just can't happen. And this is the manager United are chasing? I don't think they should be going for Pochettino at all. That should be the end of that.

He didn't win a trophy with Tottenham. Didn't win the league in his first season at PSG, where that is basically a given. And now this.

But who do United get to take over? I keep saying it but this is the biggest club in the world – and the manager's job is just not very attractive at the moment.

They're miles behind their rivals. They have a squad full of players who don't look like they want to be there. And it's even worse off the field than on it.

All you hear about is division and disagreements. I feel sorry for the United fans. You hear talk of United having a massive clear-out.

But how are they going to do that? People talk about Marcus Rashford's future as well.

What manager in their right mind is going to get rid of Marcus Rashford? A homegrown, England player who is still young? One of your own. But it's all you hear about.

And what is going on with Cristiano Ronaldo? Was he really injured or did he just get dropped? It's not happening for him there and maybe it never will.

Don't get me wrong, they've got Tottenham this weekend and will probably win because Spurs are even more inconsistent than they are.

But it would only paper over the cracks. United are a shambles at the moment, but there's no quick fix here.

There are no signings they can make in the summer that are going to suddenly turn them into title winners. This is a long-term project.

And the last person they need in charge of that right now is Mauricio Pochettino.

DCL the man who can keep Everton up

Frank Lampard has got to rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to save Everton.

If he turns up and starts scoring goals, they will be alright. But he was injured for a long time and doesn't look anywhere near fit.

Some of the fans have turned against Calvert-Lewin – but I think they need to stop giving him stick because Everton need him.

Their next two games are cup finals: Wolves and Newcastle at home. Wow. They need at least four points or they will be favourites to go down.

But they are in dire straits because they could be in the bottom three by the time they play on Sunday and then the pressure really cranks up.

Getting smashed has made their goal difference so bad Burnley could go above them with a draw at Brentford before they play.

I'm not sure Lampard can get them out of this. It was naïve the way he played against Spurs. I saw a weaker Everton team than that get a draw at Chelsea.

But he went after Tottenham with a weak back four and a striker who isn't fully fit, and it only took one player not pressing properly to let Spurs in on that defence.

Hodgson right about Watford fans

Roy Hodgson said the other day that Watford fans don't pick the team because he doesn't trust their judgement.

And he was dead right to be honest. They might not want to hear it but if he starts listening to the fans when it comes to substitutions they might as well put me in charge!

You need your fans and Watford are no different – but Roy is one of the most experienced managers in the world. Just let him get on with it.

I still think Roy can get them out of it. I still think they have that one big shock result in them. I don't see that with some of the other teams around them.

I still think they can go to a top-six club and get something as well. They lost to Arsenal but they fought back in that game and could have nicked something.

And I think in Emmanuel Dennis, Josh King and Ismaila Sarr they have the best front three in the bottom half. I really do.
