Manchester United have been urged to seal a ‘phenomenal’ deal to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer. The forward has been rumoured to be on his way out of Juventus.

Ronaldo made nearly 300 appearances for Man Utd before joining Real Madrid in 2009.

During his time in England, he won three consecutive Premier League titles and lifted the Champions League trophy and the Club World Cup in 2008.

Ronaldo developed into one of the best players in world football under Sir Alex Ferguson and struck 84 goals in 196 Premier League appearances. He also won the first of five Ballon d’Ors while at United.

The 36-year-old developed into a football superstar and his move to Los Blancos saw him become one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

He went on to win four more Champions Leagues during his time in Spain, as well as three Club World Cups and two La Liga titles.

Ronaldo departed Madrid in 2018 and has gone on to win two Serie A titles with Juventus.

The forward shows no signs of slowing down and was joint top scorer at this summer’s Euro 2020, racking up five goals – despite Portugal crashing out in the round of 16.

And one man who thinks Man Utd should attempt to bring Ronaldo back to the club is former midfielder Lee Sharpe.

“I think signing Ronaldo will be the icing on the cake,” Sharpe recently told The Mirror.

“I think if he was to come back as the number nine, he would be phenomenal.

“I wouldn’t have thought he’d come back but, then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. I think he’s got such a connection with the club.

“He would be phenomenal – not just on the pitch but in the dressing room, for the players and the young players around him.

“I think he would give people that edge of what it takes to win – what it takes to be a great player.

“I’d love to see him back go back but I’m not sure it’s something that’s on his satellite at the moment – but let’s keep our fingers crossed.

“I’d love to see that with the lads they’ve got already – it would be a phenomenal team to watch.”

United have already spent mega money this summer on forward Jadon Sancho and defender Raphael Varane as they look to launch an assault on the Premier League title.

And if they could lure Ronaldo back to the club, it may prove decisive in what could be one of the most competitive top-flight seasons ever.
