Manchester United remain on the lookout for a new forward ahead of the January transfer window. With Cody Gakpo joining Liverpool, and Erik ten Hag eager to land a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s shaping up to be an interesting month at Old Trafford. As ever, the speculation continues to rumble on…

Manchester United had been expected to sign Gakpo but, much to the annoyance of Ten Hag, the Netherlands international will be strutting his stuff for Liverpool instead.

The Red Devils are currently hanging their hat on Anthony Martial, with the France international impressive ever since the appointment of Ten Hag back in the summer.

Yet they know they need more if they’re to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

As ever with United, the speculation and gossip rumbles on. So stay tuned below for the latest updates as we provide them throughout the day.

Murtough and Fletcher in agreement

According to the Mirror, there’s an acceptance between John Murtough and Darren Fletcher that transfer business will be tricky to get done this winter.

They both feel the No 9 position is a hard one to feel, especially in the New Year.

As a result, United are poised to wait until the summer before bringing in an established marksman.

While that’s the case, however, it’s still possible they’re strengthen their squad in January with the club open to loan deals providing the right player becomes available.

Casemiro compared to Cantona

Former Norway striker Jan Aage Fjortoft thinks Casemiro is United’s modern-day version of Eric Cantona.

“Casemiro is a ‘Cantona-like – signing’ for Manchester United, he said on Twitter.

Cantona, of course, is the stuff of United legend having won five Premier League titles during his playing days.

And Casemiro has started his spell at Old Trafford well, shining following his arrival from Real Madrid back in the summer.
