Man Utd told to snub Harry Kane and sign 'amazing' Tottenham teammate instead

Manchester United should sign Richarlison and not his Tottenham teammate Harry Kane, according to former Red Devils star Kleberson.

United are enjoying a very fine maiden season under Erik ten Hag, with their recent Carabao Cup triumph keeping them in frame for an unprecedented ‘quadruple’.

However, there is still a clear weakness with the striker position, as the only two natural No.9s in the squad are Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial.

The former has played well but has scored just once since signing in January and is only on loan till the end of the season, while the latter is a fine forward on his day but can’t stop getting injured.

As such, Ten Hag will be in the market for a striker come the summer, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Spurs legend Kane the names most linked to Old Trafford.

Many believe Kane, who is out of contract in 2024, should leave his boyhood club for United so the striker, who has 201 Premier League goals so far, has a much better chance at finally winning a trophy.

But former Brazil midfielder Kleberson thinks United would be better off targeting a different Spurs forward, telling OLBG: ‘I’d really like to see Richarlison play for Man Utd. He’s the kind of striker that could help United a lot.

‘Especially with teams pressing, he can do a low block, he can put pressure on the centre-back and he can get inside the box. He’s played in the Premier League for many years, he understands the rules and he’s a really hard-working player.

‘As Man Utd get more structure and consistency, winning more games, I think Richarlison is a player who could do a lot for the club.’

The 25-year-old only moved to north London from Everton last summer, in a deal worth £50millio, but is enduring a nightmare campaign where he has struggled with injuries and failed to break into Spurs’ front three ahead of Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.

Aside from a brace against Marseille in the Champions League, he has failed to score a single goal, but he did show his qualities at the World Cup, netting three times for Brazil.

‘When Richarlison was at Everton, I think he should have gone to Manchester United instead of Tottenham. It could have been different,’ 2002 World Cup winner Kleberson added.

‘Now he doesn’t play much and he doesn’t get many opportunities. He’s competing with guys at Tottenham who are amazing players. He’s on the bench, but he’s competing with these big players.

‘As a club, sometimes you need to take a risk because he’s not a bad player, he’s an amazing player. He plays for Brazil’s national team, he just needs game time and some confidence from the coach and the team.

‘I believe he could easily do an amazing job for United.’
