Manchester United have been told how much they will have to pay to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer. Tielemans is ready for a new challenge, and he is on United’s radar ahead of Paul Pogba’s inevitable departure as a free agent in June.
Pogba’s current contract expires at the end of the season, and there has been no breakthrough in talks with the club.
He’s therefore set to leave on a free transfer, six years after re-joining for a then-world-record £89million from Juventus in 2016.
United have been strongly linked with prioritising a defensive midfield arrival in the summer transfer window.
But Pogba’s exit would likely call for a new creative midfielder to fill the void he will leave behind, and Tielemans could be the ideal candidate.

According to Gazet van Antwerpen, United have followed the 24-year-old for ‘some time’ and are now aware of what it will take to lure him from Leicester.
United have been told an offer worth £33.6m (€40m) will be enough to sign Tielemans this summer.
In July, the 24-year-old midfielder is entering the final 12 months of his Leicester contract and is ‘ready’ to make the step up.
So the Foxes will likely cash in on his services to avoid the risk of losing him for free when his deal expires in 2023.
It goes without saying that just over £30m for a player of Tielemans’ quality would be one of the bargains of the transfer window.
Pogba’s exit would just be one of a few worries in the midfield department as a new era starts under a new manager.
Nemanja Matic’s future at Old Trafford is also uncertain beyond the summer, whilst it remains to be seen whether his loan at Everton will make or break Donny van de Beek in English football.
United could just be left with Fred, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes as first-team regulars capable of operating in a midfield three.
The Red Devils undoubtedly need a new defensive midfielder in the mould of Declan Rice, Aurelien Tchouameni, Boubacar Kamara, and so on.
But a creative midfield star could be just as important come the start of the 2022/23 campaign, and Tielemans fits the bill.
The Belgium international registered nine goals and four assists in all competitions last season and has the capabilities of a top-class box-to-box player.
And United could secure a coup if they pursue his services when the transfer window opens later this year.
