Man Utd to rinse Newcastle as Aston Villa handed different Maguire terms

Harry Maguire is mocked during debate in Ghana's parliament

Manchester United are reportedly trying to rinse big spending Newcastle over their interest in Harry Maguire, while Aston Villa could be handed different terms. Despite having two years left on his contract with the Red Devils defender Maguire could leave this summer after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old has played 118 Premier League matches for United since joining from Leicester for £80million in 2019 on a six-year deal. Since the arrival of Erik ten Hag the England international has dropped down the pecking order and is currently behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.

The defender played just 16 out of 61 United games in all competitions last season and United boss Ten Hag spoke about the situation ahead of the FA Cup final. He admitted that ‘no-one would be happy with this situation – he is not as well’.

Maguire has two years left on his United contract but his wage of reportedly £190,000-a-week limits potential suitors who can afford a similar deal. The Sun have reported that Newcastle could be rinsed if they are desperate to sign Maguire this summer with United unwilling to loan them the 30-year-old.

The report says: “If the Magpies come in with a cash offer it would be a different story and also show how serious they are about Maguire. Aston Villa are watching developments as they want extra cover in the squad for their European campaign.

“Villa would have a better chance of a loan deal being accepted by United.” The Red Devils are said to be ready to accept an offer in the region of £30m to cut ties with the defender rather than leaving him on the bench again next season.

Since being taken over by their wealthy Saudi-backed owners Newcastle have spent around £250m which has helped earn them Champions League football with their first top four Premier League finish in 20 years. However, the Daily Mail claim that this summer Newcastle’s could be just £75m amid concerns about breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

Tottenham have also shown an interest in Maguire while the England defender could also form part of a deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount. However, if nobody meets United’s demands he could be loaned out next season further down the Premier League and a different deal struck with the likes of Aston Villa.
