Man Utd to go ‘all out’ on second transfer priority after landing Jadon Sancho
Manchester United will go ‘all out’ for a second summer signing following the transfer of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
The club are reportedly ramping up their pursuit of a new central defender after securing their number one target Sancho for a fee of around £72.6million on a five-year deal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on strengthening the centre-back position ahead of the new season as United look to improve on their second-placed league finish last season.
Real Madrid veteran and World Cup winner Raphael Varane is the Red Devils’ first choice candidate, having been linked with United for a number of seasons.
The Athletic reported last week that Varane, 28, is seeking a new challenge after spending a decade at Real Madrid, where he won three La Ligas and four Champions League titles.
The Frenchman is believed to be eager for a move to United where he will re-join fellow countryman Paul Pogba after the pair suffered an early exit from Euro 2020 at the hands of Switzerland.
New Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has been told that players, including Varane, must be sold this summer in order to make way for another Frenchman in Kylian Mbappe next summer.
With the Spanish giants looking to free up their wage bill and the Glazers keen to invest following the Super League embarrassment, this summer presents a glorious opportunity for United to sign Varane.

He will come into the side in place of Victor Lindelof, who appears to have reached his ceiling after four seasons with the club.
United will also pursue a right-back to increase competition for young starlet Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has made 34 Premier League appearances last season after joining from Crystal Palace in 2019.
