Manchester United could make as many as three changes for Wednesday night’s showdown with Brentford. Ralf Rangnick’s side go into the game looking to bounce back after recent Premier League setbacks against Wolves and Aston Villa. So Express Sport will now take a look at how they should line up with three changes made.

Goalkeeper: De Gea

There’s been a lot wrong at United this season.

But David De Gea hasn’t been one of the club’s issues, with the Spain international now back to his brilliant best.

De Gea has been a shining light during a tough campaign, showing the sort of form that made him undroppable under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

Dean Henderson is currently waiting in the wings.

But with United needing to pick up all three points, it’s De Gea who is likely to start between the sticks.

Defence: Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Telles

United decided to leave Harry Maguire on the bench for the draw with Villa, instead fielding Victor Lindelof alongside Raphael Varane.

Yet with that centre-back pairing struggling on the day, it’s possible Rangnick will change things up.

Therefore, Maguire could come in at Lindelof’s expense – meaning the Sweden international could have to settle for a place amongst the substitutes.

At right-back, Diogo Dalot should keep his place.

And that’s the same for Alex Telles, who impressed going forward against Villa last time out.

Midfield: McTominay, Fred, Fernandes

Nemanja Matic endured a rough night at the office as United squandered a 2-0 lead to draw with Villa on Saturday.

So, with Scott McTominay back from injury, it’s likely he’ll come straight back into the team.

The Scotland international has been a shining light under Rangnick so far, scoring in matches against Villa (in the FA Cup) and Burnley.

Alongside him should be Fred, meaning Donny van de Beek left on the bench.

And, playing ahead of the pair, Bruno Fernandes – who returned to form with a fine brace on Saturday night.

Forwards: Greenwood, Elanga, Ronaldo

Rangnick has admitted Cristiano Ronaldo could be available when speaking before the match with Brentford on Tuesday.

Therefore, it’s possible he’ll come into the team at the expense of Edinson Cavani.

Cavani has done well in recent weeks but Ronaldo, with 14 goals to his name, has earned the right to be the team’s No 1 striker.

On the right should be Mason Greenwood.

And, on the left, Anthony Elanga – who impressed both in and out of possession in the 2-2 draw at Villa Park.

Rangnick speaks out

Speaking before the game, Rangnick confirmed he’d resolved his recent spat with Anthony Martial having claimed the forward had previously refused to be part of the squad.

“I’m here now for six weeks, and all the things that needed to be said I said after the press conference,” said Rangnick.

“I had a conversation with him on Sunday and said how I saw the whole situation.

“He didn’t train yesterday and the day before yesterday.

“He will probably train today and then I will take the decision if he is nominated or not and then take the decision.”
