Manchester United face off against Manchester City on Sunday. And, now, leaks regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have surfaced. The Red Devils go into the game seeking a return to winning ways after three goalless draws on the spin.

United have already faced Manchester City twice this season.

And they’re yet to get the better of Pep Guardiola’s side, drawing 0-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League before losing 2-0 at the same ground in the Carabao Cup.

United will have wanted details of their team selection to stay under wraps but, now, that hasn’t happened.

Journalist Jonathan Shrager has revealed Fred and Scott McTominay will be starting in their midfield today as they look to put City to the sword.

They’re likely to be given the job of stifling the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, who have been in outstanding form of the majority of the campaign.

And how United line up elsewhere remains to be seen.

Dean Henderson is primed to start in goal in the absence of David De Gea, who was allowed to fly back to Spain following the birth of his child.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are both primed to get the nod, while that’s also the case with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

McTominay and Fred could play behind Bruno Fernandes, who will get picked in the No 10 role.

And we’re expecting Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford to start in attack, too, as Solskjaer’s side hunt a vital three points.

Speaking before the game, Solskjaer admitted United were finding the gruelling fixture schedule ‘challenging’.

“It’s a challenge for the team. The most successful Man United teams over the years always used to have this,” he said.

“Maybe once in a while we’d get a midweek off, but we haven’t and we haven’t had any easy cup draws either to rest players.

“The only way to improve, get better and get used to this is to go through it.

“The players are getting more and more robust, physically and mentally, and I’ve been impressed by them and they recover [from games] really well.

“Of course, once in a while you don’t really hit your best form, that’s natural and we understand that.

“Everyone goes onto the pitch to do their best and now it’s a derby and of course everyone is going to be fired up and any mental or physical fatigue is not going to come into play that’s for sure.”

Solskjaer also said he was pleased with United’s recent defensive displays, with the club keeping three clean sheets in a row.

“Of course. Since the Sheffield United defeat we’ve gone undefeated,” he said.

“We’ve had the big wins against Southampton and [Real] Sociedad and when we really hit form and create the moments we score goals.

“We do know we have the quality and at least we have the foundation of a very, very tight defence. That’s about not dropping deep and that’s what we’ve been working on all season, since last season as well, pressing high and being on the front foot and trying to keep as many teams away from our box as possible.

“That’s been working better and better, but then again we’d like to see us scoring more goals.

“It’s been a week, so three games without scoring… sometimes you don’t even play a game for a week so it’s not going to affect anyone’s confidence or belief in themselves.

“It’s just not worked but they’re going to be ready for it on Sunday for sure.”
