Man Utd target Victor Osimhen’s comments will delight Chelsea fans
Erik ten Hag fumes about PL fixture schedule after Marcus Rashford limps off
Manchester United transfer target Victor Osimhen’s has made comments about his childhood idol which will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans. United boss Erik ten Hag is determined to sign a new No.9 in the summer but could have to pay over £120million for the services of Osimhen.
The 24-year-old has scored 25 goals in 29 games in all competitions this season and fired Napoli toward the brink of winning their first Serie A title since 1990. After working his way into the Ultimate Strikers Academy in his home country of Nigeria it was during the FIFA Under-17 World Cup that Osimhen attracted the focus of European teams.
Osimhen has thrived at Napoli this season attracting Premier League attention with Manchester United and Chelsea amongst his suitors this summer. However, Stamford Bridge star Didier Drogba is the star’s icon and the pair exchange messages on Instagram.
Osimhen fondly remembers Chelsea’s Champions League victory in 2012, which will be music to the ears of those at Stamford Bridge. He told the Mail Online: “I have always supported Drogba and I have huge love and admiration for him. I remember when he scored the equaliser in the 2012 Champions League Final, an amazing header, and the way I celebrated was as though I had scored the goal. My friends knew I was obsessed with Drogba.”
Chelsea fans will be hoping that Drogba can persuade Osimhen to sign for the Blues this summer if they can meet his transfer fee from Napoli. Talking about his relationship with the Ivory Coast star Osimhen added: “One morning last year I woke up and checked my Instagram, and found messages to me from him, complimenting me, but saying I still had a long way to go.
“It’s amazing to be in contact with him. I try to model my game on his and there are a lot of things I can take from his game and add to my own, so there is nothing better for a young player. He’s a hero in his country, he’s played to the highest level, won a lot and made African youngsters dream. He’s a busy man but whenever he sees my messages on Instagram he replies immediately. It’s a great feeling.”

Osimhen is considered many many as a complete No 9 due to his technical ability, strength in the air, sharpness and athletic physique. United tried to sign the Nigeria international earlier in his career when he was playing at Lille in 2020.
However, the youngster turned down a move to Manchester before signing for Napoli at a cost of around £44m. His price tag has rocketed this season and Ten Hag could instead go in pursuit of Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
