Declan Rice has explained how he had to delete Twitter in the wake of a poor performance for England at Euro 2020. The West Ham midfielder was one of the Three Lions’ best players at the tournament but decided to remove himself from the social media platform following the group stages.
Rice admits he “didn’t have the best of games” in the 0-0 draw with Scotland at Wembley Stadium.
Gareth Southgate’s side were fortunate to come away with a point against a buoyant Scotland.
Rice received plenty of criticism for his display and came off Twitter after seeing that his name was trending on the platform.
The 23-year-old has since joked that he returned after a much better performance against Germany in the last-16.

“When we played Scotland, I didn’t have the best of games,” Rice told Gary Neville on Sky Sports’ the Overlap.
“Seeing myself trending [on Twitter], it was like 30,000 tweets about me. I thought, ‘Oh no, what is going on here?’
“So, honestly, I deleted my Twitter account. For like two weeks, I didn’t go on it.
“After we beat Germany, everything was positive…”

Former Manchester United defender Neville then quipped: “You went back on it again?”
“Yeah!” Rice laughed back.
Rice has been linked with a transfer from West Ham in the summer, including to Man Utd.
The Red Devils are in desperate need of a midfielder of Rice’s profile. The former Chelsea academy prospect has since fuelled such reports by saying he wants to win every trophy possible.
“I’ve always said it, I don’t want to have a career where I’ve won nothing,” Rice continued to Neville.

“I’ve grown up as a kid seeing all these top players win the big trophies, Premier League and Champions League.
“As a football fan and player I want to win the best stuff, I want to win the Premier League and lift that trophy.
“I want to win the Champions League and I want to win the FA Cup, League Cup, stuff with England.
“I want to win it all. As a footballer, if you’ve not got that ambition, why are you playing? I want to have those experiences of winning trophies and being the best I can be.”
