Man Utd takeover battle takes another turn as Sir Jim Ratcliffe position clear
Andre Onana linked with Man Utd and Chelsea move
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is losing confidence in his bid to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family, according to reports. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has seemingly leapfrogged the INEOS boss as the favourite to complete a takeover at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
In Wednesday’s edition of Nice-Matin, it’s claimed that Ratcliffe, who also owns Ligue 1 club Nice, is becoming increasingly pessimistic about his chances of buying United.
The 70-year-old, Britain’s richest man, was previously considered the frontrunner in the prolonged process that has almost extended to eight months.
His latest offer was for around a 60 per cent stake and a controlling interest in the club he supported as a child after being born in Greater Manchester.
It received some backlash from fans who have protested against the current ownership for 18 years, given it would accommodate Joel and Avram Glazer to retain a 20 per cent stake in United.
But the latest reports indicate that Ratcliffe is growing concerned that the US-based family are leaning toward Sheikh Jassim’s pursuit of a full sale.
