Man Utd step up Kane pursuit after Ten Hag demand as £80m bid readied
Manchester United bosses have green-lit plans to make Harry Kane their showpiece summer signing. Erik ten Hag has told Old Trafford chiefs he wants the Tottenham and England star to spearhead a Champions League campaign next season.
And according to the Daily Star, United CEO Richard Arnold has sanctioned the opening of negotiations with the north London outfit over a potential £80million deal for the striker. United are not alone in their admiration for the Spurs hitman with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea all circling.
But United are hoping early negotiation at a time when Spurs look engulfed in chaos following the sacking of Antonio Conte could put them in pole position.
Kane, 29, has just one year left on his current deal and wants the guarantee of Champions League football for the duration of his next contract.
With Spurs struggling to hold on to fourth place under pressure from Newcastle and Liverpool, chairman Daniel Levy may also struggle to keep hold of the club’s biggest asset.
Ten Hag has admitted a centre forward is the primary target this summer with Cristiano Ronaldo having left before the World Cup and Wout Weghorst just a stop gap solution.
And the Dutchman believes Kane could be the difference to push United on from being top four contenders to title winners. Manchester City were thwarted in their pursuit of Kane two years ago after Levy refused to budge on a £150million valuation despite the striker pushing for the move.

Levy is thought unlikely to stand in his way a second time should United push for a deal with the Red Devils believing £80m could be enough to land the target.
Ten Hag has always been outspoken about United’s recent transfer dealings, and will be hoping for better this summer. Speaking in January, he said: “The club has bought an unimaginable number of players in recent years who have not been good enough. Most purchases have been average – and at United average is not good enough.
“United’s shirt weighs heavily. Only real personalities, who can perform under great pressure, can play here.”
