Man Utd state of play with Van de Beek as Mount transfer moves closer
Ten Hag comments on van de Beek's Man Utd future
Manchester United are reportedly edging closer to a deal for Mason Mount this summer. The Chelsea star was coy on his future when asked at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix over the weekend and, with personal terms already agreed, it seems only a matter of time before he moves to Old Trafford. Express Sport now takes a look at Donny van de Beek’s situation and whether the Netherlands international will be shown the door this summer…
Manchester United expected big things from Van de Beek when they signed the Netherlands international from Ajax in 2020.
It was the hierarchy, instead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who brokered a deal for the playmaker – whose fine form for Ajax had made him a target for Real Madrid.
With the La Liga giants lacking the finances to make a transfer happen, having spent big on Eden Hazard the previous year, United then swooped.
Solskjaer had actually wanted Jack Grealish, only for Aston Villa’s price tag of £75million to be deemed too steep.
When United signed Van de Beek, many fans were buzzing.
They felt the 26-year-old was the perfect player to challenge the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Nemanja Matic for a starting berth.

Yet the brutal truth of the matter is Van de Beek, so far, has been a huge disappointment.
He struggled to win Solskjaer round during his first season at the club, making just 19 Premier League appearances following his £40m arrival.
And after toiling under both the 50-year-old and Ralf Rangnick last term, he was then loaned to Everton.
Van de Beek failed to shine at Goodison Park but, upon returning to United, was promised a fresh slate by Ten Hag.
He appeared to have started to turn a corner at the beginning of the year, with his former Ajax boss finally giving him some much-needed game time.
But a serious injury against Bournemouth in January saw his campaign end ahead of schedule.

Fast-forward to now, and there’s been talk of Van de Beek potentially leaving the club – especially if Mount arrives.
The Chelsea star is a top Ten Hag transfer target, with the Blues facing the prospect of selling their academy graduate or losing him for nothing in a year.
And any arrival of a fresh midfielder would make Van de Beek’s mission of achieving game time even harder.
The Sun recently said Van de Beek was in line to be sold by United in the event of any Mount arrival.
A source was quoted as saying: “Van de Beek’s career at United has been on a knife-edge for a long time.
“Some at the club thought it could be rescued by the arrival of Ten Hag, who got the best out of him at Ajax.

“But it hasn’t worked out that way. Donny just hasn’t settled so he will move in the summer, most likely to Europe where he will look to rebuild and then go again.”
But United look likelier to sell other players instead.
With Van de Beek still battling to recover from injury, having recently returned to training, Fred and Scott McTominay are likelier to attract more suitors.
Fred recently confessed he could leave Old Trafford, saying: “I still don’t know, I have to talk with my family.
“I still have one year left on my contract here. Now it’s holiday time and a good opportunity to rest. I’ll talk to my staff, to the club and see what everyone’s decision is.
“I do have to talk with Ten Hag as well. He’s the manager and the conversation has to involve everyone. We have to see how next season will plan out.
“I want to be important, I want to help the team, so we’ll see. But I’ve always been and still am very happy at Manchester United.
“Of course I always want to be playing, to be helping my team, and gladly I started the final and I think we played well.”
And McTominay has been linked with West Ham and Newcastle amid uncertainty over his United future.
Van de Beek’s injury situation means it’s unclear what United will decide.
But with Mount edging closer to moving to Old Trafford, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Netherlands international jump ship.
