Man Utd stars in ‘dressing room bust-up’ as tensions boil over after dire start

Erik ten Hag had to restore order in the Manchester United dressing room after four players were involved in a bust-up at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to reports. Tensions were high as United fell to a 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, causing a quartet to passionately air their grievances at each other.

The Red Devils have endured their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, losing three of their opening five games.

Concerns intensified after a Brighton side worth five times less tactically, technically and physically outclassed the hosts on their own turf.

Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro fired the Seagulls into a shock 3-0 lead before Hannibal Mejbri’s maiden United goal served as a consolation.

The occasion only descended into further chaos behind the scenes, with United stars clashing in the dressing room to add to the disarray.

According to The Sun, club captain Bruno Fernandes let rip at midfield partner Scott McTominay after United’s second successive defeat.

McTominay garnered mass criticism for his ineffective display alongside Fernandes and Casemiro, which allegedly didn’t go unnoticed by his peers.

The report adds that underwhelming centre-back duo Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof also went at it after being humiliated by Brighton’s free-scoring attack.

Martinez and Lindelof have failed to strike a connection, with the former missing Raphael Varane through injury.

The dressing room drama followed a chorus of boos at full-time as United fans witness the side regress at the start of Ten Hag’s second season.

And this week, Old Trafford icon Gary Neville suggested that there was unrest among Ten Hag’s ranks.

Neville said: “How popular is Sancho in the dressing room? How popular is Maguire?

“Ten Hag has got some bugs in there that we don’t know from the outside what discomfort and uncertainty is being created on the inside.

“You’ve got a player who’s probably changing in the first-team dressing room but is over with the academy.

“You’ve got Harry, who was captain of these players 12 months ago but has now almost been alienated to the third, fourth, fifth centre-half.

“So Ten Hag has some situations in there, and I don’t know the damage that is having.

“There have been many a manager since Sir Alex Ferguson left, good managers who have found challenges at United.

“I’m hoping it’s just a difficult start to the season and not a repeat of what we’ve seen previously — where it started to become challenging for Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, David Moyes, Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
