Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has spoken out after his side’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday. The France international was able to help his side claim victory despite being far from convincing at Old Trafford. Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the game, helping his side bounce back after their defeat to Wolves last week in the process.
Manchester United weren’t at their best against Villa, putting in yet another turgid performance under Ralf Rangnick.
However, they got the job done. On a night where Cristiano Ronaldo was ruled out through injury, McTominay headed home the winner after a sublime delivery from Fred.
United had to cling on in large spells, while they also relied on VAR to help them out with Danny Ings seeing a goal chalked off after Edinson Cavani was fouled in the box.
Varane has now opened up after the result.
And the former Real Madrid star has also addressed claims the club have a broken dressing room, insisting good results like tonight will help them overcome any issues they have going on behind the scenes.

“We just have to be focused on our job,” he told BBC Sport.
“We have to fight, we have to fight for our fans. That is it.”
He also admitted the match was a ‘difficult’ one for his side, too, saying: “It was a difficult match.
“We had to suffer a lot on the pitch but together and I liked the spirit of this match.
“We had the opportunity to score more goals. When it was not possible to play higher up the pitch we were compact and did not let them play easily.
“We had to be aggressive and as a result it is good. We are happy. We need more confidence, we need to be together and I think we are in a good way.”

Alan Shearer, performing punditry duties for the BBC, thinks United’s body language throughout the match was bad.
And though he didn’t want to, he also took aim at Marcus Rashford.
“When you look at the body language of some of those players,” he said.
“I don’t want to single out Marcus Rashford because he’s low on confidence, we don’t know what’s going on in his personal life but I just think everything looks a huge effort for him at this moment in time there’s no spark there, he looks very flat.
“He started off the first 5 or 10 minutes and I thought here we go he’s back to his best by giving Man United a little bit of width and had a little bit of spark about him.
“But there was once in the first half and again in the second half when Greenwood cuts in from the right-hand side and he just stands still.”
Micah Richards, meanwhile, branded United’s display as ‘underwhelming’.
“For all the stick he’s taken, McTominay had a good performance tonight,” he said.
“He has had a couple of good performances in the last couple of weeks but typical Man United again.
“Underwhelming again. Not great but at least he popped up for a goal for himself.
“You look at Man United and you don’t know what Man United are going to turn up. Villa were the best side but the game’s about scoring goals and Villa couldn’t do that today.”
