Edinson Cavani has stated he will be ready to help Manchester United whenever he is called upon, showing Donny van de Beek the way amid the Dutchman’s frustration over his lack of game time. The midfielder is said to be prepared to leave Old Trafford in January due to a lack of minutes and the former Ajax man has grown tired of the few opportunities he has received from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Van de Beek was pushing to join Everton on loan on deadline day before Solskjaer intervened and allegedly promised him regular football.
That simply has not happened yet though this season, leading Van de Beek to consider his future at the club.
Solskjaer publicly urged Van de Beek to stand up and be counted, stating that he wants all of his players to fight for the badge and prove their worth in order to help the team.
Cavani’s involvement has also been limited this season just a matter of months after he performed a U-turn on his decision to return to South America after just one season at United.

But now El Matador, who is away on international duty with Uruguay, has relayed his desire to force his way into the United team while patiently awaiting his chance to flourish.
“Those are things that happen, a lot of debate is created, but football is football and you don’t have to turn it around too much, it’s not because one or the other is there,” he told El Observador.
“The important thing is to be prepared for when it’s your turn, you always want to play, he wants to be there forever, but that is not going to change my way of thinking or acting.”
When discussing United in further detail, he cited that he wanted “to be a part of it,” when referencing the club’s ambition to fight for trophies.
“In football, you have to always be ready,” Cavani added. “It’s one of the keys at the top level. Sometimes you play more, sometimes you play less, managers make decisions, but that doesn’t stop the work to always be competitive.
“The league has just started and I have needed to be, not quite like last year, but I’m there to be a part of it.”
Those words will be music to the ears of Solskjaer, who has risked upsetting Cavani with the re-signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cavani’s minutes have been limited in the shadow of the Portuguese, who also took El Matador’s No 7 shirt upon arrival.
Yet Solskjaer is adamant competition for places is part and parcel of every successful football team and therefore he has no time for sulkers.
He said on Van de Beek last week: “He knows he’s not frozen out. This obsession about… It’s Man United and when a headline player is not playing for Man United it’s always going to make headlines.
“But then again I’ve got plenty who don’t play every week, so I don’t have any issues with Donny at all, he knows what he needs to work on, what we want him to work on and he is diligent in his work.
“And he has never let his mood affect his teammates negatively because you have to have that fire in your belly if you are going to make it.”
He later added: “I’ve been taught when I was a kid I should never swallow chewing gum and he’s probably followed the gaffer’s lead and thrown it out,” Solskjaer laughed.
“Absolutely no worries about that. What are you supposed to do? Hand it to someone else? No, of course not.”
