Cristiano Ronaldo insists he will not be retiring from international football any time soon as he outlined his desire to push the boundaries and play at the highest level for as long as possible. The Portuguese mega star returned to Old Trafford this summer, 12 years after departing for Real Madrid but the 36-year-old does not plan on slowing down anytime soon.
“I want to carry on because I like to play football and I feel good to make people happy,” he told Sky Sports, in an exclusive interview with Geoff Shreeves ahead of United versus Liverpool.
CR7 is now the all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international football after surpassing Ali Daei’s 109 goals for Iran.
Ronaldo has since sustained a significant lead at the top, netting a staggering 115 times for his country and he does not want to stop there.
The United forward is also currently the all-time leading scorer in Europe’s top-five leagues having netted a whopping 479 goals.

He has also made the most appearances (179) and scored the most goals (137) in Champions League history.
Upon his return to Old Trafford, Ronaldo penned a two-year contract with United but he plans to carry on playing way beyond that.
So should he call time on his international career – having already won Euro 2016 and the 2019 UEFA Nations League – in order to prolong his club career? Ronaldo was almost disgusted with the suggestion.
He said to Shreeves: “But why did they retire? I think it’s not my time yet.
“It’s not what people want, it’s what I want. It’s when I feel that I’m not capable to run, to dribble, to shoot, if the power is gone… but I still have that stuff so I want to continue because I’m still motivated.

Mourinho has found himself linked with the Newcastle hot-seat since the completion of the £305million takeover but he was keen to put the rumours to bed ahead of the game.
“No. Absolutely not,” he told Sky Italia, when asked if he would be interested in the job.
“I signed for three years and nothing can make me leave these lads.”
Mourinho had previously talked up the Magpies, citing his unique relationship with Sir Bobby Robson and that has sparked optimism in some quarters that the Portuguese is interested in the project.
“On Newcastle, I don’t have anything to say. Absolutely nothing to say,” he said.
“The only thing I can say is that for many, many years, I worked with one of the most important figures in the history of Newcastle, Sir Bobby Robson, and so because of that I have always had a bit of an emotional connection with that city and that fanbase. But it’s nothing more than that.”
