Manchester United’s medical staff reportedly labelled Casemiro a “warrior” after conducting tests on the Brazilian international following his arrival from Real Madrid. The five-time Champions League winner is currently in line to make his debut for the Red Devils on Saturday when Erik ten Hag’s side travel to Southampton in Premier League action.

Casemiro was at Old Trafford on Monday to watch his new team-mates in action as they defeated Liverpool 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams to kickstart their season.

Earlier that morning, the 30-year-old had been back in Spain to say his goodbyes to the Real Madrid squad before embarking on his new chapter in England.

United conducted their medical tests on Casemiro over the course of the weekend and according to AS in Spain, there was an exciting verdict from the various staff involved in the procedure.

Casemiro could potentially slot straight into midfield for Ten Hag at St Mary’s – although the Dutchman could yet opt to name an unchanged starting XI following the impressive victory over arch-rivals Liverpool.

The former Los Blancos stalwart is expected to add steel to United’s engine room – something that has been sorely lacking in recent times.

He has also shared the Real Madrid dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane as they look to drive United back into the Champions League.

“There’s no doubt I’m really excited. I’ve been very warmly welcomed,” Casemiro said in his first interview with the club.

“I’ve already felt that special affection from everyone towards me and of course that’s really important.

“I felt that great affection from the moment I arrived and I think it’s a new challenge. I’m absolutely delighted.

“I feel like I’m 20 or 18 years of age, I’m raring to go, I’m excited to be amongst my teammates, playing in the stadium and I think that it’s just huge excitement and I’m absolutely delighted.”

Casemiro may not be the only midfield arrival at United before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Incredibly, United are still open to the possibility of signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona should he become available.

United have spent over three months trying to convince the Dutchman to join Ten Hag’s revolution but disappointingly, to no avail.

Even if Casemiro is the only midfield signing at Old Trafford in the coming weeks – in addition to Christian Eriksen – Ten Hag is excited to welcome his winning mentality to United’s ranks.

The tactician said: “He knows the road: how you win games and finally how you win trophies.

“We [now] have more players who have won already many trophies in their career.

“That has to be a guidance for the rest of the team so they know and they understand how to win games.”
