Manchester United have been handed a pretty mean Europa League draw, as the Red Devils will meet Serie A title contenders AC Milan in the next round. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to watch out for three Milan players in particular.
United have been handed a gruesome draw in the last 16 of the Europa League.
Following their two-leg demolition of Real Sociedad, the Red Devils have been handed a tough draw against Serie A challenders Milan.
Stefano Pioli’s side beat Red Star in their round of 32 game, with the two legs sandwiching the Milan derby last weekend.
Milan are four points behind arch rivals Inter Milan in the Serie A table, and will be a tough side to beat for United.
Express Sport looks at three players United will have to combat in order to progress to the quarter-finals.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
One of the best goalkeepers in the world, Gianluigi Donnarumma has kept nine clean sheets in all competitions this season.
The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and has been playing like a man trying to advertise himself to Europe’s top clubs.
He will be on his best form against United, as they are one of the teams who have been linked with making a move for him.
Anthony Martial has struggled for goals this season, and will have perhaps his toughest test of the season against Milan.
Jens Petter Hauge
AC Milan signed a diamond in the rough last summer as they brought in Jens Petter Hauge from Bodo/Glimt for £4.5million.
The Norwegian is part of the country’s golden generation alongside Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, and made his debut for the senior side late last year.
The left winger, 21, has been eased into the side by Pioli, but has still made 23 appearances across all competitions – with seven goals and three assists.
He’ll likely come up against Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and the United right-back will have a difficult task ahead of him.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
It seems written in the stars that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return to Old Trafford and cause his old side some trouble.
The Swede, 39, has continued to defy Father Time by producing the form of his life this season with 14 goals in 13 Serie A games.
He’s only played four times in the Europa League due to injuries and being rested against Red Star, but will want to haunt his old side when he returns to Old Trafford.
Ibrahimovic didn’t play alongside Harry Maguire, but will know exactly how Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly play and how best to exploit them.
