Manchester United are supposedly eyeing midfielder Leon Goretzka as a replacement for Paul Pogba if the Frenchman leaves the club this summer. The German played the full 90 minutes as his side were dumped out of Euro 2020 by England on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite being out-worked and out-played by England’s duo of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips in his side’s 2-0 defeat, Goretzka has shown plenty of quality in his three seasons at Bayern Munich.
Having got the knack of arriving late into the box to score goals, the 26-year-old has been involved in 52 of them in just 112 games, an impressive rate for a box-to-box midfielder.
After pictures surfaced on social media, Goretzka has become known for his muscular frame which would certainly stand him in good stead for a division as physical as the Premier League.
The former Schalke youngster only has one year left on his contract with the German champions, while negotiations appear to be hitting a wall.

The bumper salary package offered by Bayern to outgoing defender David Alaba is thought to have caused a stir among the squad, with wage demands hitting a sudden spike.
According to a report from SportBild, United view Goretzka as the perfect replacement for Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman showed some mesmerising touches during Euro 2020, despite crashing out in spectacular fashion to Switzerland at the last 16 stage.
As the thrilling 3-3 battle went to penalties, the 28-year-old lashed his into top-bins territory before Kylian Mbappe shockingly saw his spot-kick saved.

Pogba also has just one year left on his deal with United, but his performances for the national team suggest that there would be more to come from him at a different club side.
Having often been cast out onto the left-wing last season, there is the general feeling that Pogba does not fit neatly into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 4-2-3-1 system.
Goretzka would certainly offer something different, notably more defensive responsibility. Although, Pogba’s flashes of brilliance are almost impossible to replicate.
What Old Trafford would be getting their hands on, however, is an experienced all-round midfielder with plenty of years left at the top level.
Salary demands may be a stumbling block in negotiations for the Red Devils as Bayern are already finding.
With a lucrative package being offered to incoming winger Jadon Sancho, highly-rated Goretzka is unlikely to take his services to Manchester on the cheap.
Pogba’s future needs to be resolved before United’s pursuit of the German is taken to the next level, but with France out of the tournament, new developments could emerge at any time.
