Man Utd round-up with Sheikh Jassim U-turn and Greenwood making extra money
LGBTQ+ activist concerned by potential Qatari takeover of Man Utd
While the season is over, Manchester United news and speculation is continuing to pour in. Sheikh Jassim, Erik ten Hag and Mason Greenwood are just three individuals currently in the spotlight. Express Sport now takes a look at all the latest coming out of Old Trafford.
Sheikh Jassim U-turn
Sheikh Jassim no longer believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe is a frontrunner in the race to buy Manchester United.
That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who told GiveMeSport: “Still, we have the same situation where Nine Two Foundation and INEOS are in the process.
“Maybe the only difference at this point is that there’s a real feeling on the Qatar side, that it will now be a case of them being successful, or a no sale, possibly with some kind of financing baked in.
“So, instead of Qatar looking this as them versus Ratcliffe, which has been the narrative for much of the takeover, I think Nine Two Foundation feel like it’s about whether they’re picked or whether the Glazers opt for a no sale with some form of financing, then put the club on the market at a later date.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains in the hunt but the latest noises suggest the 70-year-old is losing ground.

Agreement struck
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Erik ten Hag is in agreement with Director of Football Operations David Harrison that David De Gea must be replaced.
And United are now ‘in a hurry’ to secure the signing of Andre Onana.
The Cameroon international previously worked under Ten Hag at Ajax, with the pair winning three league titles together.
United want to bring Onana to the club by Tuesday.
And it’ll take a fee of around £43million to ensure the 27-year-old makes the move to the Premier League.

Greenwood making extra money
Mason Greenwood hasn’t played for United in over a year.
And The Sun report that, on top of his £75,000-a-week wages being paid in full, the England international is also making some extra money on the side.
Greenwood is a director of TSM Sports Ltd and, per the publication, has made £1.05m from the business.
That’s up from £740,000 last year.
The company was founded by both the United star and his father Andrew back in 2019, with the Red Devils forward owning more than 75 per cent of the firm’s shares.
Jones made two complaints
United recently cut Phil Jones loose.
And the Manchester Evening News say the veteran was unhappy with two stories written about him during his time at the club.
Jones was aggrieved at being compared to Dianne Abbott, the Labour MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington.
And he was also furious when it was claimed he’d refused to give up his No 4 shirt for Raphael Varane.
Varane could now get the jersey this summer, with the defender previously sporting the digit for France.
Laird posts tribute
United recently confirmed the departure of Ethan Laird.
And the defender posted a touching tribute to the club on social media, saying: “It’s time to say goodbye @manchesterunited been at United since I was 10 coming through the ranks at this great club has been a huge privilege for me.
“It’s always been my dream to play for United so making my first team debut in 2019 in the Europa League was a dream come true.
“I want to thank everyone at the club for giving me the opportunity, especially my coaches and my teammates during the last 11 years.
“It’s time for me to take the next step in my football journey. When one door closes another one opens.
“And I pray that God continues to guide me with every decision I make for it’s for his glory not mine.
“I hope that our paths will cross again in the future if it is God’s will! Lairdo outt.”
