Man Utd risk upsetting Alejandro Garnacho if Jadon Sancho seals January transfer

Mason Mount slammed by former Man Utd star after poor start – 'Nowhere to be seen'

Manchester United must manage Alejandro Garnacho carefully to ensure he realises his sky-high potential under the blistering spotlight on Old Trafford. But Erik ten Hag risks upsetting the 19-year-old winger if he starts an unfavourable chain of events by offloading Jadon Sancho.

United are expected to explore options to move Sancho on in the January transfer window, having failed to resolve his public spat with Ten Hag.

A loan until the end of the season appears to be a likely outcome, with Borussia Dortmund and Juventus reportedly interested in his signature.

Sancho’s exit wouldn’t change much to United’s current wing pecking order. Garnacho is behind Marcus Rashford on the left, and Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo cover Antony on the right.

But Ten Hag reportedly wants to replace Sancho in his attacking department, which could prove problematic.

According to Calcio Mercato, United are among Federico Chiesa’s suitors, with Juventus open to cashing in on him.

The Italian winger, turning 26 this month, can operate on both sides of the attack and has experience playing as a second striker.

The report claims Juventus value him at £43million, with just over 18 months remaining on his current contract in Turin.

Chiesa would offer competition for both Rashford and Antony in the wide positions, which may spell bad news for Garnacho’s hopes of regular minutes.

The Argentine prospect will understand that Ten Hag is dripping him into his first-team plans after only enjoying his breakthrough last season.

But he has made just three starts this term and hasn’t started in the Premier League since the opening two fixtures.

And his hopes of more consistent game time, rather than remaining as Ten Hag’s first port of call when he requires an attacking substitution, would take a significant blow if Chiesa joined the Dutchman’s ranks.

United aren’t at risk of losing Garnacho despite his strong ties to the Spanish capital, which have drawn fears of Real Madrid swooping in as they did with Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

The Red Devils No 17 signed a new long-term contract until 2028, stating that he was ‘relishing the future’ at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag will have offered assurances of his plan for Garnacho, likely including a gradually increased role in his project in M16 as he gets older and gains more experience.

Recruiting another winger yet to hit his peak years could jeopardise that plan, though, and risk unsettling Garnacho.
