Man Utd risk Ten Hag backlash with second failure as ‘Mason Mount reunion eyed’
Man Utd's Old Trafford in focus
Manchester United risk facing Erik ten Hag’s wrath if they miss out on Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer. The Red Devils reportedly face heavyweight competition if they walk away from talks, but potentially can’t afford to after already missing out on one Ten Hag target.
The Dutchman has identified Mount as his priority midfield signing in a window where he also wants a starting goalkeeper and striker.
On Friday, Chelsea rejected a third United bid worth £50million plus £5m in add-ons, following £40m and £50m offers this month.
The Blues are said to want £58m plus £7m in add-ons and are open to meeting United figures face-to-face to find a resolution.
But United reportedly insisted that their third approach for Mount would be their last, considering £55m a reasonable price for a player entering the final year of his contract.
If they do walk away from the negotiations table, other clubs would be free to have a run at the 24-year-old.

According to the Mail, a host of European giants are closely monitoring Mount’s situation, ready to pounce in January, when he will be available to sign a pre-contract agreement if he remains at Chelsea.
Among them are Bayern Munich, where former boss Thomas Tuchel remains a huge admirer.
Chelsea are as aware as United that Mount will likely leave for nothing next year if not this summer.
But it would be in the Old Trafford club’s best interests to seal a deal in the coming weeks to prevent intensifying Ten Hag’s frustrations.

United already look set to miss out on centre-back target Kim Min-jae to Bayern, despite holding positive talks on personal terms with the Napoli star.
Ownership uncertainty has limited how many avenues United can focus on at once, with deals beyond Mount and David de Gea’s successor unclear.
So missing out on the England international would leave Ten Hag’s plans in limbo as pre-season draws closer.
It leaves United under pressure to go against their word and table a fourth bid for Mount, which may weaken their negotiating power further but simultaneously keep Ten Hag happy.
