Manchester United have reportedly rejected a £20million offer for Harry Maguire from West Ham.
The Athletic claim the Hammers are unlikely to pursue the move further due to Maguire's wage demands. He's currently earning in the region of £190,000 a week.
It's also believed the England international, 30, wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford, with United happy to have him stay as a squad player for next season.
Many Red Devils fans were happy to see the bid swiftly knocked back. One tweeted: "£20m is a joke let’s be honest…" A second echoed: "Yeah, that’s a joke of an offer."
A third argued: "As much as he's not good enough for United, £20m is an insult." And a fourth suggested: "£35m and we have a deal."
"Would 1000% rather he stayed than sold for that laughable amount lol," added a fifth, while a sixth joked: "Premier League should take away the 100m they got from the [Declan] Rice deal."
Maguire joined United in an £80m move from Leicester City in 2019. He's repeatedly come in for criticism in the four seasons since for his performances in the Premier League.
Following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez last summer, he was dropped by new manager Erik ten Hag. But he's managed to maintain his England starting spot under Gareth Southgate.
However, Southgate did issue a warning to him and Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips about their lack of playing time after the Euro 2024 qualifiers last month
He said: “Harry is captain of an incredible football club so that is a difficult situation, he will obviously be frustrated not to play as much as he would like but I think he has handled that really well, he has publicly talked well about supporting the team.
“It is clear, really. I think Harry and Kalvin are the two who have played the least in terms of guys in this squad this season but we have gone with them because in these two positions we think they are still ahead of others that might have played more.
“But it is then hard when that competition gets more even and you are not playing regularly to see their form, see their fitness so that is the challenge for everybody.”
