Man Utd provide Marcus Rashford injury timeline heading into run-in

Manchester United have confirmed that Marcus Rashford will miss the Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla through a muscle injury. However, Erik ten Hag has been handed encouragement that his talisman will be available for the business end of the season.

Rashford pulled up in the 80th minute of last Saturday’s 2-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford, immediately signalling to the bench that he needed treatment.

Many feared the worst over his condition, given his importance to Ten Hag, but he looks set for a short spell on the sidelines. United have confirmed that, following a scan, Rashford will be unavailable for a ‘few games’ but will be back before the end of the season.

It likely rules him out of both games against Sevilla and Sunday’s Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest in between. Rashford is also now a doubt for next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Brighton and Hove Albion at Wembley.

The injury will come as a blow to Ten Hag but should be seen as the best-case scenario from a groin problem that can often rule players out for months.

Rashford has been crucial to the Dutchman’s positive first season as manager at Old Trafford, scoring a career-high 28 goals in all competitions.

His absence will be felt against Sevilla and potentially Brighton, but welcome returnees in recent weeks will soften the blow. Anthony Martial made his latest return from injury earlier this month and has come off the bench in United’s last three games.

Ten Hag is likely weighing up whether to throw the Frenchman into the starting line-up against Sevilla on Thursday night after he scored United’s second in the Everton win.

Martial spent the second half of last season at the La Liga club and should feel he is ready to play from the off.

Wout Weghorst is another option. He started his first 19 games after joining the Red Devils on loan but dropped to the bench for Sancho in the last two.

Ten Hag is expected to now choose between the two to replace Rashford centrally while Antony and Jadon Sancho continue to settle into their roles on the wings.
