Man Utd presented with January swap deal opportunity as Tuchel ‘pushes’ for move
Manchester United could attempt to strike a swap deal in January with Bayern Munich. Bayern are reportedly interested in signing Raphael Varane, while Thomas Muller has been linked with a move in the opposite direction.
Varane has fallen out of favour at United this season. Despite Lisandro Martinez being out with a foot injury, the Frenchman hasn’t started a Premier League match since September.
Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are all ahead of Varane in the pecking order. That has left the former Real Madrid star frustrated with his lack of game time.
Sky Sport Germany claimed last week that United would be willing to sell Varane at the right price in January. The Red Devils would want to bring in between £17.4million and £26m for the former World Cup winner.

Bayern are keen on luring Varane to the Allianz Arena but the cost of his wages and transfer fee could be a concern. They could attempt to strike a swap deal in order to bring the price down.
German outlet Bild claims United could swoop for Muller if he continues to struggle for game time under Thomas Tuchel. Muller, who has spent his entire career at Bayern, is out of contract at the end of this season.
The 34-year-old has started just four Bundesliga matches so far this season, playing 329 minutes across his 10 appearances in total. He is determined to continue playing at the highest level even if that isn’t at Bayern.
United’s attackers have struggled to score goals in the Premier League this season and Muller would add an experienced option in the final third. He has scored 237 times in his career for Bayern but has found game time hard to come by since the arrival of Harry Kane.

Muller swapping clubs with Varane could be a deal that suits all parties. FCB Inside claims Tuchel will likely push for a January move for Varane to add further depth to his defensive resources.
However, the financial implications of a deal may be a stumbling block. Varane earns £340,000 a week at United, equating to almost £17.7m across a 12-month period.
Muller is one of the higher earners at Bayern and removing his salary off the wage bill would create a space for Tuchel to bring in a new signing. Muller will get a chance to check out his potential new surroundings when Bayern play United in the Champions League in just over two weeks’ time.
