Manchester United are prepared to use David De Gea as a makeweight in a deal for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
The Red Devils are ready to let the Spanish stopper return to his boyhood club if Oblak is allowed to come the other way, according to reports in The Sun.
De Gea, 30, is one of United’s longest serving players but has found game time harder to come by this season amid competition from Dean Henderson.
The two men both represent high class options between the sticks, but some of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s closest advisors have been pushing for the Norwegian to take a look at Oblak, who has just won the La Liga title.
Oblak, who is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in the world, would cost somewhere in the region of £80million.
But United believe they can bring that figure down by including De Gea as part of a prospective deal.
A return to his boyhood club could appeal to the Spaniard, who went home in March for the birth of his first child.
The stopper still has two years remaining on his current deal, which means United will be expecting a good price for his services.
Old Trafford chiefs are prepared to let De Gea go to any club that can afford him – although that is a very short list.
Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus could be interested if the numbers add up, but Atletico is seen as the best move for all parties.
If De Gea does move on from Old Trafford, his last game could end up being the disastrous penalty shootout defeat to Villarreal.
The veteran ace failed to stop a single spot-kick during the shootout and then saw his own effort saved to hand the La Liga side the trophy.
