Man Utd ‘prepare’ increased Trippier bid as Atletico play hardball over defender
Manchester United are reportedly considering an increased bid for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier.
The England international is wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but Atletico boss Diego Simeone will need to be tempted into selling a valuable cog in his team.
Reports claim United made an offer in the region of £10million for the 30-year-old last month which was rejected, with the La Liga champions expecting a heftier sum closer to £30million.
The Red Devils meanwhile are still only prepared to pay around £18million for the ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender but it is unclear whether such an offer will be sufficient.
Trippier enjoyed one of his best seasons to date in the red and white of Atletico last campaign.
He played 28 league games as Atletico pipped rivals Real Madrid to the domestic title, registering six assists in the process.
But Trippier’s biggest accomplishment has arguably come with his defensive improvement under Simeone’s tutelage, with England manager Gareth Southgate calling him a ‘defensive animal’ during the Euros.
Solskjaer would have been impressed by Trippier's ability on both sides of the pitch, with current right-back option Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaving a lot to be desired in an attacking sense.

But with Simeone in no rush to sell, Trippier may have to force through a move in order to make the transfer happen.
Meanwhile, United are currently holding talks with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane over a possible move to Old Trafford.
Varane reportedly wants to join United but talks have a way to go before the subject of a transfer fee is discussed with Los Blancos.
The Reds are currently leading the race for the French veteran but may face competition from Chelsea in the coming weeks.
