Manchester United are said to be preparing an opening offer of £43million for Raphael Varane, according to reports in Spain. The Frenchman is the subject of strong interest from the Red Devils and is deemed the perfect acquisition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Harry Maguire has continued to impress for England at Euro 2020 after returning to the starting XI following his ankle injury and now United want a new centre-back partner for their captain.
Varane is a player that United have been keeping tabs on since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson when the now 28-year-old was at Lens in France.
Yet with his Real Madrid contract ticking down, Los Blancos are cautious that they may need to sell before the start of the new season.
They have already lost captain Sergio Ramos though and understandably, they’re not keen on losing both in the same transfer window.

Nonetheless, El Mundo in Spain claim United are ready to test the water with an offer of £43million (€50million).
The same report adds that Real Madrid are looking for that figure in order to sell, meaning the bid would interest them.
Florentino Perez has already completed the capture of David Alaba from Bayern Munich while Eder Militao has shown he is capable of stepping up to become a regular starter.
It’s still likely that Real Madrid would want to bring in another central defender with Jules Kounde and Pau Torres amongst potential options.

Varane is yet to make a final decision on his future though.
He has been resting up and spending some time with his family after France’s dramatic last 16 exit at Euro 2020 to Switzerland.
Carlo Ancelotti wants him to stay at the club and Varane is a big part of the Italian’s plans.
However, there is an understanding that Varane may wish to pursue a new challenge at this stage of his career.
PSG were believed to be keen before Ramos became available on a free transfer.
United do have other options in mind though if for one reason or another, Varane is no longer an option.
Kounde and Torres are both players they are keen on whilst Leicester’s Caglar Soyuncu has also been linked.
Ultimately, Solskjaer could still even make do with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, with both still committed to the club.
The Swede impressed at Euro 2020 and will be looking to build on that when he returns to Carrington, as he looks to keep his place in the side.
