Man Utd players hate Ralf Rangnick's training and compare new coach to Ted Lasso
Manchester United’s players are already growing tired of Ralf Rangnick’s training methods and have compared his assistant, Chris Armas, to hapless fictional TV character Ted Lasso.
Ragnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis in December and is likely to move into a consultancy role at the end of the season with United’s board likely to choose between Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag as his permanent successor.
United, however, still have much to play for this season, despite having been knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship outfit Middlesbrough last Friday following an agonising penalty shoot out defeat.
Ragnick’s side have a Champions League last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid to look forward to later this month but face an uphill battle to finish in the top four following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Burnley.
United’s players had already voiced concerns about Rangnick introducing late afternoon sessions but are now said to have taken issue with his ‘old fashioned’ methods, according to ESPN.
Moreover, several players have compared Armas, a former USA international, to Lasso, who was hired to take charge of AFC Richmond in the popular Apple+ comedy show.
Much of Rangnick’s work is said to revolve around shape and basic team structure, leaving little room to work on improving individual skills.
In fairness to the German, United have been much better defensively since his appointment, but they have struggled to turn their dominance into goals, with more profligate finishing costing them dearly at Turf Moor earlier this week.
