Manchester United players disapproved of Cristiano Ronaldo ruling himself out of matches on two separate occasions, according to reports. The Portugal international is now a free agent after leaving Old Trafford. And widespread reports have suggested he’ll soon be strutting his stuff in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Nassr keen to recruit the veteran this winter.
Manchester United thought the glory days were coming back when they re-signed Ronaldo in the summer transfer window of 2021.
But while he was a shining light under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last season, scoring 24 goals across all competitions, the veteran has struggled this term.
Ronaldo managed just three goals for United before his contract was exterminated after a blistering interview with Piers Morgan.
He didn’t hold back, criticising Erik ten Hag, the Glazers and the facilities at Carrington – while insisting the club had made ‘zero progress’ in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, United players have been impressed by the way Ten Hag handled the Ronaldo situation.

And, what’s more, they disapproved of how Ronaldo ruled himself out of matches on two separate occasions in an attempt to secure the exit he craved.
Ronaldo was missing as United beat Aston Villa 4-2 in the Carabao Cup on November 10, having skippered them to a defeat against the same opponents days previously.
And he also ruled himself out of their 2-1 victory over Aston Villa just before the World Cup, with Alejandro Garnacho netting the winner that day.
United could replace Ronaldo when the transfer window reopens in January, with three players being linked.
The Red Devils probed a deal for Joao Felix back in 2019 and could revisit interest in the Portugal international, who is unhappy at La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Rafael Leao is an option, though AC Milan would be reluctant to lose the attacker as they look to retain the Serie A title.
And United may end up bidding for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, who they came close to signing back in the summer before landing Antony instead.
Regarding Ronaldo, widespread reports have suggested he’s on the verge of moving to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.
They’re ready to pay the veteran substantial wages worth in the region of £171million, an amount that would make him the best-paid player on the planet.
And what ultimately happens remains to be seen, amid suggestions Ronaldo would actually prefer to join a team who can offer him Champions League football.

Former United star Gary Neville, meanwhile, recently tipped Ronaldo to join an elite club where he can ‘do a brilliant cameo role’.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be looking for a top club on a four-month or five-month contract where he can go in and do a brilliant cameo role at the very elite of European football.
“That’s what I think his priority would be – to stay in the Champions League, to stay at the very top and prove that what happened at Manchester United wasn’t right.
“I think he’s got four or five great months in him somewhere where he’ll go in and score 15 or 20 goals in that period.”

“Everybody in Manchester will say ‘why didn’t we keep him?’ and people in the Premier League will as well.
“But he’s got that in him and I would say that would be his priority.”
Ronaldo is expected to start when Portugal lock horns with Switzerland at the World Cup today (7pm).
Fernando Santos’ side have won two of their first three matches, beating Ghana and Uruguay but losing to South Korea last time out.
