Man Utd outcast spotted making unexpected cameo in hit TV show Succession

Manchester United outcast Phil Jones has made a stunning cameo in the hit HBO show Succession, sort of.

In season two episode eight of Succession, two characters can be seen sitting at a bar sharing a drink. And in the back of the shot, for all of two seconds, a football game is shown between a team in blue and a team in red.

And one TikTok sleuth was able to work out the game when he correctly identified the stadium – using Powerade advertising hoardings – as the Allianz Stadium in Sydney. Using the same method he was able to establish the game was from around 2011.

However, the user – @noproblemgambler – was stumped when he couldn't match up any of the Sydney FC's kits to the two shown on the TV show.

That was when he stumbled across the Sydney Festival of Football – a pre-season tournament that featured Sydney FC, AEK Athens, Blackburn Rovers, and Rangers.

Amazingly, the footage from Blackburn's clash with Rangers matched up to what was seen on HBO.

And the short clip on Succession shows Rangers' Kenny Miller blasting the ball past Paul Robinson, with 18-year-old Phil Jones left only able to watch.

Before Jones was turning out for the Red Devils, he cut his teeth at Blackburn – where he had been earmarked as future England captain. The youngster made the switch to United in 2011, and initially had some success.

But in recent years, Jones has been the forgotten man at Old Trafford – and he even went two years without any first-team action.
