Man Utd now sweating on Fernandes injury after ‘heavy strapping’

Manchester United are now sweating on the fitness of Bruno Fernandes after the midfielder left their FA Cup win over Brighton with ‘heaving strapping’. The Portugal international made way for Marcel Sabitzer during the contest at Wembley. However, he seemed in good spirits after the game as Erik ten Hag’s side booked their place in June’s final.
Fernandes was good for United against Brighton but, after suffering a knock in the first half, was then withdrawn for Sabitzer in the 101st minute.
And MUTV pundit Danny Webber claimed the midfielder had ‘heavy strapping’ on his leg following the contest.
“There is definitely something there,” he said. “He rolled his ankle it swells and can become really painful.
“You can take painkillers or anti-inflams and get through, he did really well to be fair.
“I thought he might not come out in the second half he lasted a lot longer.

“He was heavily strapped and its a case now of icing it, resting it. You can recover quite quickly providing the actual injury isn’t too bad.”
Ten Hag didn’t elaborate on Fernandes after the victory at Wembley.
But United will be hoping to have the former Sporting Lisbon star available as soon as possible with matches continuing to come thick and fast.
United are due to lock horns with a wounded Tottenham side on Thursday night, with Spurs looking to bounce back from their 6-1 hammering at the hands of Newcastle.
And the Red Devils are then primed to lock horns with Aston Villa on Sunday as they look to boost their chances of a top four finish.

Fernandes has been a regular in the United side this season, having won round Ten Hag following the Dutchman’s summer appointment.
And he was sorely missed on Thursday night as the Red Devils lost 3-0 to Sevilla in the Europa League, crashing out of the competition in the process.
Should Fernandes be ruled out for the foreseeable future, it would be a hammer blow for United.
They’re already without a number of senior players as they look to finish the campaign on a high with a cup double.
Donny van de Beek hasn’t played for the club since January, with the Netherlands international sidelined with a knee injury.

Lisandro Martinez is out until the end of the campaign, while the Red Devils are also waiting to see if Raphael Varane can feature again this season.
Scott McTominay suffered a knock earlier in the month and hasn’t featured since, while Tom Heaton and Phil Jones are also out.
And Alejandro Garnacho’s situation remains a mystery, though the Argentine is now working at Carrington again as he looks to make a swift recovery.
With City on course for a treble, United will need no motivating for the final at Wembley on June 3.
Ten Hag has promised fans the club will do all they can to bring the trophy home to the red side of Manchester, rather than the blue.
“I understand, of course, the feelings from the Man United fans about it,” said the 53-year-old.
“We will do everything to give them that, to give them the second trophy, everything what I have, everything what the team have, everything the staff have, we will give everything to get that done.
“We can do it, because we proved it, but it’s not an easy job. It’s a great team, but we’ll also have a great team and great players and we can beat them.
“More than 100 per cent, you can’t do, so the fans can rely on that: we will give it and we will do it against every opponent, it doesn’t matter who it is.
“Of course, we want to give that against City. We want to give the fans that, sure.”
