Man Utd news: Diallo roles outlined, Van de Beek treatment stance, Solskjaer talks Garner

Man Utd: Donny van de Beek transfer weighed up by pundit

Manchester United are in FA Cup action against Watford later on Saturday. But, as ever, there’s plenty being written and said about the Red Devils. So Express Sport will now take a look at all the latest news and gossip coming out of Old Trafford, including updates on Amad Diallo, Donny van de Beek and James Garner.

Diallo roles outlined

United announced the signing of Amad Diallo from Atalanta on Thursday, with the Ivorian moving to Old Trafford in a £37million deal.

And, speaking to the club’s official website, Solskjaer outlined the two roles the 18-year-old can play in.

“I think he [Amad] is comfortable in many positions,” said the 47-year-old.

“Right-wing is probably the position he’s played the most, with his left foot coming inside.

“Then again, in the Champions League for Atalanta, he played on the left – he cut inside and he went outside, so he can play different positions for us.

“Let’s give him time to find his feet here in England and we’ll hopefully see him soon.”

Van de Beek stance on treatment

In the week, reports emerged suggesting Donny van de Beek was unhappy with his role at United.

It was claimed he was ‘sad’ at Old Trafford and didn’t even give interviews because he couldn’t face talking to the media about it all.

But Fabrizio Romano has insisted the Netherlands international isn’t happy, but would like to play more.

“No, but he’d like to play… is normal,” he said on Twitter when asked if Van de Beek really was dissatisfied with life in England.

“He’s a good guy and a great professional.”

Now, Van de Beek could be about to get his chance with the 23-year-old expected to be included in Solskjaer’s starting XI for the FA Cup clash with Watford on Saturday night.

Solskjaer talks Garner

United boss Solskjaer has admitted he’s a big admirer of James Garner, who is currently spending the season on loan at Watford.

“Jimmy [Garner] has done really well [at Watford],” said the 47-year-old.

“Then there was a change of manager and the new manager has had only two games and Jimmy hasn’t really had a look-in.

“The first four or five months have been really positive for Jimmy.

“He’s a boy that we really believe in. Of course he needs that game time and exposure and the Championship is a very good level of football, so it’s been really good for Jimmy and hopefully he can fight his way back in the team again.”

Tim Fosu-Mensah to leave

Solskjaer has confirmed Tim Fosu-Mensah is free to leave United this month.

“I’m not sure if Timo is going to stay or [if] he’s going to take an option now,” he said.

“He’s not played enough, so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs, with a view to leaving now in January.

“It’s difficult when you’ve got good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game time.

“He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again. It might be [at the] end of January, or it might be in the summer that he finds somewhere else.

“So he’s working hard, Tim, he’s ready for a move for any club that he feels ready for.”
