Man Utd new boy Mason Mount ‘questioning transfer’ after Chelsea regret claim
Mason Mount slammed by former Man Utd star after poor start – 'Nowhere to be seen'
Mason Mount will be questioning his decision to leave Chelsea for Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to ex-Blues defender Glen Johnson. The 24-year-old midfielder wouldn’t have envisaged United’s early-season struggles when leaving his boyhood club to join Erik ten Hag’s project.
United enjoyed a significantly stronger 2022/23 season, lifting the Carabao Cup and finishing third in the Premier League, nine places and 31 points ahead of Chelsea.
Mount joined Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat as summer arrivals expected to strengthen Ten Hag’s starting lineup.
But United have endured a disastrous start to the campaign, losing six of their opening 11 games, including both of their Champions League Group A outings.
Mount started United’s first two fixtures against Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur before missing over a month through injury.
He has been one of Ten Hag’s better players since returning in September’s 3-0 win against Crystal Palace, starting four successive games ahead of the international break.
Chelsea have suffered an equally miserable start to Mauricio Pochettino’s reign, winning just three of their eight league fixtures to sit in 11th, one place and a point behind United.

But Johnson believes Mount will regret his decision to leave Stamford Bridge after around two decades on the back of the Red Devils’ early woes.
“At the moment, he will be [regretting his decision to join Manchester United],” Johnson told Betfred.
“Manchester United are a very big football club, but you don’t join them with the expectation that you’re going to be part of a team that’s 10th in the Premier League.
“You only want to go there to challenge for major honours, and I know that Chelsea aren’t in a better position at this very moment, but you don’t move to Old Trafford in the expectation that you’re going to struggle.

“I don’t know why he decided to leave Chelsea, but I’m sure he’s questioning his decision at this very moment.”
Mount’s arrival in Manchester was met with cautious optimism, given he surrendered his status as a regular starter throughout the west London giants’ torrid 22/23 season.
But it also had a feeling of significance, with Ten Hag offering Mount the iconic No 7 shirt, left behind by Cristiano Ronaldo following the explosive end of his second stint at Old Trafford.
There is a vast expectation among fans that Mount will come good and grow into a crucial cog in Ten Hag’s midfield machine. That said, there must be some disappointment over how his United switch has gone so far.
