Man Utd new boy Malacia admits that he bases his game around a United legend

Manchester United's latest signing Tyrell Malacia has admitted he bases his game on a previous Red Devils legend, who is a five-time Premier League winner.

The marauding left-back, 22, penned a five-year deal, with the option of a further year, on Tuesday (July 5) to become Erik Ten Hag's first signing as Man Utd manager. Malacia is expected to provide competition to Luke Shaw for a starting berth at Old Trafford with Alex Telles set to depart following a training ground bust-up.

United have forked out an initial £13million fee to sign the Netherlands international, which could rise by a further £1.7m including add-ons and bonuses.

Asked by Utd's media department what fans can expect ahead of the new season, the young defender was quick to draw comparison with club legend Patrice Evra, admitting he based his game on the Frenchman.

"Yes. Patrice Evra. I love his style, he’s fast, strong energetic," Malacia told the club's website. "I want to do even better than him, I know it's going to be difficult but I set the bar high."

If he is able to replicate Evra's on-field success, Malacia will look back on a glitter Man Utd career. Aside from the staggering five top-flight titles, the Frenchman racked up three League Cups, three entries into the Premier League Team of the Year and a Champions League crown.

He left for Juventus in 2014, upon the arrival of Louis van Gaal, claiming back-to-back scudettos before enjoying a two-year spell in his homeland with Marseille. Now a regular pundit on Sky Sports, Evra is famed for his newfound catchphrase "I love this game!" and will be hoping new boy Malacia is of a similar mind at the end of next season.
