Man Utd may repeat David de Gea decision as Erik ten Hag at risk of £74m loss
Reaction to the VAR decision that cost Wolves a penalty against Man Utd | Football Digest
Manchester United could lose around £74million in potential transfer fees if they fail to offload players or extend contracts this season. Erik ten Hag needs to raise funds to add a fourth summer signing before the deadline, but moving stars on has once again proved a challenge at Old Trafford.
United have cashed in on Anthony Elanga, Fred, Alex Telles, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage in recent weeks.
However, after splashing £179m on Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, Ten Hag’s remaining budget is wafer thin.
Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been touted for moves to boost the Dutchman’s summer kitty.
But three of the proposed transfers – Henderson to Nottingham Forest and Maguire and McTominay to West Ham United – have collapsed, and Van de Beek’s proposed exit has gone silent.
It leaves Ten Hag short on funds to sign a second midfielder and forward, and more frustration could be on the horizon.
Nine members of the Dutchman’s first-team dressing room are out of contract in 2024, leaving United at risk of a significant loss.

And the German football information website believes United could lose £74m worth of players in less than 12 months.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is valued at £21m and is reportedly set for contract talks to ensure he doesn’t become a free agent next year.
But there have been no murmurs of Victor Lindelof extending his Old Trafford stay, potentially because he’s eyeing regular minutes elsewhere beyond his current deal.
Anthony Martial (£13m) has stayed at United due to a lack of interest, as have Brandon Williams (£6m) and, so far, Eric Bailly (£4m).
