Manchester United will not pursue a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer while the Norwegian is still in the job, according to reports. Solskjaer is under pressure following last Sunday’s 5-0 demolition by Liverpool at Old Trafford. United’s title hopes hang by a thread just nine games into the Premier League season.
Antonio Conte would reportedly be interested in the United job if it were to become available.
Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rodgers have also been linked with the Red Devils post.
But European football expert Gabriele Marcotti says there has been no communication between United and a potential permanent new manager.
That is because United do not want to undermine Solskjaer while he is still in the role.

The club would instead appoint an interim manager if they thought it was right to sack Solskjaer.
Marcotti told the Gab and Juls podcast: “I’ll go back to what I was told. I was told they were loathed to pursue another permanent manager whilst Solskjaer was still in the job.
“And so, should Solskjaer move on, they’d look for an interim manager and then conduct a proper search. Almost like a reset button.
“But I was thinking, who could do the interim job? Mike Phelan, Darren Fletcher, I like Nicky Butt a lot.

Solskjaer will be given Saturday’s match away at Tottenham at least in order to turn the club’s fortunes around.
He held his pre-match press conference on Friday and admitted responsibility for recent results.
“As I said, we need a reaction,” Solskjaer said.
“It’s my job as well to put the players in the right frame of mind.
“I’m responsible for the reaction, for the result, for the performance.
“We’ve worked on the pitch on everything that needs to be sorted for a footballer and that’s not just one thing, that’s not just frame of mind, that’s approach going into the game, strategy going into the game, game-plan, tactics, technically.
“We’ve had a good week and I feel that the boys are ready to give their best, as they always do. Of course, nothing went to plan [last week] and that was nowhere near our best.”
