Man Utd loanee Jesse Lingard sends out mental health packages to help his mates

Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard has been sending out mental health packages to help his friends during the pandemic.

Lingard, who is currently on-loan at West Ham, has been open and honest with his own mental health battles in recent months.

Earlier in April, the 28-year-old revealed his own struggle to cope with his mum’s depression when he was younger.

Speaking to YouTube show Presenting, he said: "When you're young, seeing your mum going through something like that, you don't understand it logically.

"You don't know what she's going through. She'd say 'I'm depressed, I'm depressed'. But me, as a kid, you don't know what that means.

"You're just going out, playing out, playing football, doing your thing.

“But mum was in bed most of the time, curtains closed, she's going through it. This is when I was young, like 12."

The experience of dealing with his mum’s depression obviously had a profound effect on Lingard.

Because the United star has been making sure his pals are looked after during a difficult time by sending them care packages.

Derby County midfielder Jordon Ibe shared a picture of a care package from Lingard on Instagram.

Earlier this year, Ibe admitted to be being in a ‘dark place’ and revealed he was suffering from depression.

His package contained two self-help books, some incense and a personalised note from Lingard.

The note read: “Hello! On behalf of Jesse Lingard – please read good vibes, good life first. Thank you and enjoy!”
